OVERWORKED, IGNORED, EXPLOITED: And Now They Protest
@TheBankersVoice You’re right WORK TO RULE only exposes what should have been the baseline all along. For years, bankers were overworked not just because of management pressure, but because the unions, who were supposed to defend them, stayed silent or legitimized it.
This is why it’s frustrating: Real activism is consistent, not seasonal. The moment leaders stop fighting for normal rights, overwork becomes “culture”, and later protests are just catching up to what should have been defended all along.
Leaders of UFBU and other unions here’s a direct challenge:
Where were you when late nights, weekend work, and overwork became “normal”? Why was activism limited to single day protests and badges while bankers’ rights were ignored for years?
Bankers reflect for yourselves: Why did we accept overwork as culture for so long? Why did we allow those claiming to represent us to stay silent while our time and health were exploited?
It’s time to stop blaming circumstances alone, accountability must start with leaders and ourselves.
So yes, it’s time to question both management and union accountability.
