ALT A common way to monitor patient safety in clinical trials is providing data to medical monitors in multiple tables. In larger, long-running trials, this workflow makes it challenging to maintain oversight. It composes risks to miss potential safety hazards and it slows down the decision-making process on whether any safety event warrants further follow-up. We are improving our patients’ safety monitoring procedures by using Quarto interactive reports and a Trial Safety Surveillance R Shiny application. We provide medical monitors with an instant overview of patients’ multidimensional, medically relevant data, using smart visualizations and interactive user interfaces. In this presentation, we will show how we developed our data visualization pipeline for monitoring purposes using medical end users’ feedback, highlight several practical features, and discuss what challenges remain. Our updated patient safety monitoring procedures and tools provide a major upgrade.
