Hundreds of scientists who study cancer and aging have made an easily avoidable but significant mistake, deploying the wrong antibody to test for a key protein, according to a researcher who exposes errors in the biomedical literature. Learn more: scim.ag/4akPaP4 @NewsfromScience

Why 50% of human fertilized eggs fail to complete pre-implantation development? Latest work from my lab in @CellCellPress now clarifies the two causes that contribute to the low efficiency of early human embryos and provides one of the solutions. (1/7) doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2026.…

More mammal work like this please!👏
New paper! How do RNAs "know" where to go inside a cell? We dug into the sequence elements that route RNAs to the right place. It turns out that, in mammals, they're surprisingly massive (>200 nt), multipartite, and wonderfully complicated. 🧵

Spinal motor neurons in dazzling detail. ✨ Each green dot is a spinal motor neuron - crucial but rare cells making up just 1% of neurons in the spinal cord. In diseases like ALS, they are selectively damaged, making them of special interest to neuroscientists. #SciShots

If human editors can’t control who reviews science, it’s no longer peer review — it’s a rubber-stamp machine designed for volume and profit, not quality. I have no intention of attaching my name to it. So I’m out.

When Frontiers started automating the editorial process, I stayed. I reasoned that as long as the automation could be turned off, human editors can still ensure rigorous, high-quality peer review. This now became impossible — the system has been entirely hijacked by algorithms.

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience (part of @FrontNeurosci). It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇

Dr Holt and Shuman 😍 beautiful work and papers, well deserved
We're thrilled to announce the 2026 #KavliPrize Laureates, scientists pushing boundaries of what humanity knows in #astrophysics #nanoscience #neuroscience. They have revealed new chapters in the story of our universe, the smallest materials, and how the brain works. 1/2

We developed wildDISCO, a whole-body immunolabeling method that makes entire mice transparent and maps cells in 3D using standard antibodies. We are now using this technology to develop powerful cell-level targeting therapeutics.
How do you map every cell in an entire mouse without slicing it into thousands of sections? Our recently published paper in @NatureProtocols describes wildDISCO: a whole-body immunolabeling approach that makes the mouse transparent and labels cells throughout the body using standard antibodies. The result? Cellular-resolution 3D atlases of entire organisms, preserving the anatomical context that is often lost in traditional histology. I still think MDPI journals can have legit papers every now and then, but they are totally buried in a mountain of low-quality papers and terrible reviews. Long story short, I avoid citing MDPI stuff in general because they ignore reviewers.
