Led by @pklafosse, we show neurons in the awake🧠can filter out inputs: attenuation-by-suppression.
Also: real neurons’ activation function share features w/ #ai systems (eg ChatGPT). #neuroscience

Informal inquiries welcome!
What is the nature of sensory prediction error signals in neocortex and the circuit-mechanisms underlying them? Genuinely thrilled to see this epic effort from Shohei Furutachi in my and @TFlogel's lab out on @biorxivpreprint: biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…
Extremely excited to announce our 2.6M€ @ERC_Research Consolidator project DREAMNET has been funded! The project will study circuit and computational mechanisms of production of structured neural activity during sleep.
We'll be looking for postdocs/PhDs/technicians (expertise in vivo 2P imaging / machine learning / holographic optogenetics) in the near future so please RT or DM me if you think you might be suitable and fancy coming to live in beautiful Barcelona!
We have a new 3 year postdoc position available in the lab on plasticity of cortical representations of sensory and behavioural variables in collaboration with @jrochav. More details here: euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/6…
The SpineLab at UIC-Barcelona is looking for a POSTDOC to join a project awarded by @la_marato TV3 on Mental Health. It'll be a 2-year contract to study extracellular vesicles as biomarkers for @SindromeXFragil in human samples, transgenic rodents, and brain slice cultures.
It is often claimed that ‘DNN are a good model of the visual cortex’.
Three papers have come out recently that in my opinion build a serious case against this claim.
Here’s an overview:

Neurons in the visual areas of your brain are constantly active, even when you close your eyes. What are these neurons talking about and why? We looked at research across species and across development for some answers with @LilachAvitan 🐭🐟🤠🪰: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
ALT Neural activity in visual areas starts out during development as low dimensional (all neurons active or inactive together). Then as the animal matures, activity becomes more high dimensional and it becomes more driven by the behaviors of the animal. Also, in mature animals, external stimuli, like objects the animal sees, drive neural activity patterns which are distinct from the patterns driven by behavior.
The SpineLab at UIC-Barcelona is looking for a postdoc to apply together to fellowships to do exciting research on light-sheet live imaging of synaptic plasticity interactions with brain waves! #FENS2022 Spread the word!
We have just launched our SENSORIUM competition to find the best model of mouse primary visual cortex! 🥳
Have a look at out white paper on #arxiv where we describe the data and the competition tracks in detail: arxiv.org/abs/2206.08666.
