Fun to think about this... the company we created from this tweet was Spacebar Visuals, a B2B video agency. Last month, we did $88k in revenue, have a team based in Austin, TX globally, and 100 happy clients. @ryansatkinson is a force of nature. We need to do this again.
I think I want to hire an intern / someone who wants to moonlight on the side to start a productized services business. $10k in seed capital to spend as you please monthly payment, work 10 hours a week with me to start and scale up/down from there. Why this is interesting 💡

You have no experience. You’ve never started a company. You’ve never had a full time job. Nike is going to kill you. You’re a kid. You don’t have technical skills. You shouldn’t build hardware. Apple is going to kill you. You can’t build hardware. You can’t measure heart rate non-invasively. Athletes don’t care about recovery. Under Armour is going to kill you. It won’t be accurate. You don’t listen. You’re an ineffective leader. You can’t recruit great talent. You’re going to have to pay every athlete. You can’t measure sleep non-invasively. It’s too expensive to research. Athletes are a small market. The product costs too much to make. The product costs too much to sell. Your valuation is too high. Consumers aren’t going to want it. Hardware is too hard. You should measure steps. Fitbit is going to kill you. You can’t build a marketing engine. You can’t raise enough money. You need a real CEO. Google is going to kill you. You can’t be a subscription. You can’t build a brand. You can’t do consumer in Boston. Your valuation is too high. You shouldn’t make accessories. You shouldn’t make apparel. Lululemon is going to kill you. You can’t predict Covid. Stay in your niche. You are going to run out of money. You can’t build a health platform. Amazon is going to kill you. You can’t measure blood pressure. You can’t get medical approvals. The market is too small. You don’t understand AI. The market is too competitive. It won’t work internationally. The supply chain is too complicated. You can’t build an AI. You can’t raise enough money. It’s too competitive. Healthcare isn’t going to want it. … Just keep going ✌️

I posted this 3 years ago. @ryansatkinson DM'd and emailed me with a video pitch, and we launched @SpacebarVisuals. Now, we’re doing $50k /month, produced millions of views for our clients, and we’ve already broken our quarterly sales record halfway through Q4. 🚀🚀🚀

Thrilled to announce Express, a conversational data engineering platform, powered by agents, that makes working with data as simple as describing what you need. The biggest blocker to AI adoption isn’t the models - it’s the complex, time-consuming process of preparing and integrating data from hundreds of systems. Express solves that! Describe what you need in natural language. Express figures out where the data lives, connects to it, transforms it, and prepares it for use. No coding required. Production-ready in minutes. The teams that move fastest with AI will be the ones who can unlock their data fastest. Now, anyone can, with Express. Try it today → express.dev

We have a dead simple budgeting system at @SpacebarVisuals 80% of cash goes to Ops (payroll, cogs, commissions, etc) 10% to Marketing 10% to profit-sharing We put these in separate, connected accounts automatically when cash comes in. When we have excess cash in ops, we decide to re-invest or distribute. Never think about it otherwise. Sounds stupidly simple/obvious but most small businesses don't do this. @ryansatkinson is incredibly disciplined about it, and when we made the change business improved.

No one is reading B2B whitepapers anymore. In 2016, I started a business that promoted whitepapers for companies like Oracle, DocuSign, Citrix, Datadog and others. It worked - people downloaded them, read them and would even take demos. Now, it's a waste. Instead, companies should do this: Take your existing whitepapers, and turn them into a ~60 second video that hooks someone in right after they download the whitepaper report that they will "get to at some point". It should have key stats and make them want to actually read more about whatever you've researched (i.e. cyber security threats in 2024 and how to stop them, what media companies are doing to monetize in a post cookie world, etc.) You did the hard part and sunk hours into research, now you need your prospects to actually read your findings. This is what companies like AWS, ISO, StreamSets and others do with spacebarvisuals.com
