Bengaluru is feeling the heat - quite literally!
Once known for its chill mornings and breezy evenings, the city touched 39.2°C last year - the hottest in history. So the big question now is:
How do we keep
#NammaBengaluru cool, safe, and liveable for all?
That’s what brought together some of the city’s brightest minds - scientists, researchers, health experts, and government changemakers - at the “Inclusive Action on Heat Resilience in Bengaluru” workshop hosted by
@c40cities in collaboration with the
@GBA_office Bengaluru Climate Action cell and the Health Department, on October 10th at Radisson Blu Hotel, Palace Road.
Dr. Vybhav G R (
@artparkindia @iiscbangalore ) kicked off with fascinating insights on state-level heat mapping showing just how quickly our city’s microclimates are changing.
C40 Cities followed with findings and proposed Heat High Impact Actions (HIAs) - spotlighting where Bengaluru needs to act now.
Then came a powerful moment - Mrs. Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner (FECCM), GBA, reminded everyone that “resilience isn’t built in reports - it’s built in action.” She urged experts to come up with practical, on-ground solutions GBA can bring to life.
The room came alive with ideas - cool roofs for Peenya’s factories, blue-green corridors weaving through the city, shade and hydration for street vendors and frontline workers.
By the end of the session, one thing was crystal clear: Bengaluru’s fight against heat will be won through collaboration, creativity, and community.
Let’s turn the city’s heat challenge into an opportunity - to build a cooler, greener, more inclusive Bengaluru together.
