Here's the #SOTU moment when Obama called for criminal justice reform. Standing applause on both sides of the aisle.

Our Director of Policy, Jeremy Haile (@texpat) spoke earlier this month at the @NCSLorg “Time Served” conference on a “Second Look Policies” panel. He discussed Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing, emphasizing how prosecutors engage victims with transparency and how implementation varies across states. Great insights from Sarah Anderson (R Street Institute) on survivor justice laws, Ryan King on DC's IRAA data, and the overall conversations on policies to safely reduce incarceration. #JusticeReform #SecondLook #Policy

It's official... This morning New York City officially and permanently co-named West 8th Street as Jimi Hendrix Way. 💜 The new street sign unveiled today at the corner of 6th Avenue and West 8th Street is just down the street from Jimi Hendrix's landmark Electric Lady Studios in the heart of Greenwich Village. Stay Experienced!

Exciting news in Colorado. 🎉 The state has enacted legislation (SB26-115) for Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing, which means seven states now give prosecutors the authority to look back at past cases in the interest of justice. We’re grateful for the support for PIR by Colorado legislators who stood up for justice that is both firm and fair. We also recognize the extraordinary work of Spero Justice Center for its commitment to accountability and second chances. We take great pride in working with all stakeholders, both law enforcement and defense. We’re grateful to partner with Spero on this effort. For The People is proud to support a national, growing movement to safely reunite incarcerated people with their families.

President Barack Obama (@BarackObama) writes about Abraham Lincoln and what held the Union together when everything was working to pull it apart. At the center is Lincoln's argument that individual liberty and the common good aren't opposing forces, and that a democracy survives only when its citizens keep choosing to bind their fates together.

There is plenty to be said about the statutory analysis in this case and Fernandez. But let's not lose sight of the fact that judges are treating compassionate release so broadly, at least in part, because modern federal law offers so few avenues to release prisoners.

Barney Frank was one of a kind. For more than three decades in Congress, he fought tirelessly for the people of Massachusetts, helped make housing more affordable, stood up for the rights of LGBTQ Americans, and helped pass one of the most sweeping financial reforms in history designed to protect consumers and prevent another financial crisis. Barney’s passion and wit were second to none, and our thoughts are with his family today.

President Obama just appeared at a taco restaurant in Austin with @jamestalarico and @GinaHinojosaTX. They chatted with restaurant goers and as he left, Obama said, “remember to vote!” to big cheers:

I wrote this essay about my mother, because she's dying and because many of us who were sent to prison in the '90s and '00s for long stretches have baby boomer mothers out there aging alone. It's the hardest part of the punishment, one we never saw coming. esquire.com/news-politics/a7…

Hope isn’t blind optimism — it arises in the face of uncertainty. If you look at our history, we’ve gone through some rough patches. But we tend to come out on the other side of them stronger than before.

That the Guggenheim folks saw me worthy of a fellowship is, I hope, a testament to the idea that people in prison can create successful careers and we don't have to wait for someone to set us free before we make our mark. #guggfellows2026 gf.org/stories/announcing-th…

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.
