💡 Great discussions and meaningful insights emerged from
#ESMOBreast26 🚀 Among the highlights for our team was the presentation of this study, not only for its scientific significance, but also for its direct relevance to the lives of patients and caregivers 👇
🔬➡️ We presented findings from an
#ethnographic study examining the real-world experiences of patients living with metastatic breast cancer and their
#caregivers in Spain.
🤝 Conducted by
@GileadSciences España y Portugal with scientific guidance from
@GEICAM, the study extends beyond traditional clinical endpoints to characterize the emotional, social, and practical challenges experienced across the disease trajectory.
📋 Drawing on interviews and ethnographic questionnaires completed by 31
#patients and 10 caregivers, the study shows that needs change across disease stages, from the initial impact of diagnosis to long-term management and end-of-life care 🧠 The findings also highlight underrecognized dimensions of the patient experience, including body image, sexuality, and the psychological burden associated with
#metastatic disease.
🎯 The results indicate that patient experiences differ by
#breastcancer subtype, underscoring the need for more personalized and comprehensive models of care.
💟🧬 Overall, the study reinforces the importance of integrating psychosocial support, stronger communication strategies, and patient-centered resources into
#oncology care to address unmet needs that extend beyond medical treatment alone.
🧪 We leave this year’s congress with a strong sense of progress and shared learning, and we look forward to advancing this work through continued research and collaboration 🙌 We are eager to see the next steps in this field.
