I studied at university but my own Mum was not afforded the same opportunity as me. She did eventually attend university much later in life doing post-graduate nursing and finished her career helping others to become nurses. Today, it is my aspiration for all Australians to have the opportunity that I did to attend university. @uniaus @PressClubAust

I saw up close how @carovinuesa stood up & spoke out for science and evidence-based policy, in the face of enormous hostility, in the case of Kathleen Folbigg. She continues to do so for others, on top of her day job. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this prize.

Pleased to see that @carovinuesa has been included in the shortlist for the 2024 John Maddox prize "for her work using genetic sequencing to prevent unwarranted accusations of parents that they have harmed their children".

This analysis piece published on @abcnews over the weekend shows just how much international education contributed to the economies of each state last year, which in the ACT was a staggering 57% of it’s foreign income.

Last week @uniaus CEO @LukeSheehyUA warned universities, not by choice but out of necessity, are now taking cost-saving measures to offset the revenue loss from fewer reduced international students as a result of the Albanese government’s move to cap international student numbers.

UA supports the 2024 Cyber Security Legislative Package, but we have concerns about increased reporting obligations and duplication for universities.
The introduction of mandatory ransomware reporting seems duplicative without clear additional benefit. We’ve suggested ways to align these requirements in our submission.
With significant cyber expertise in Australian universities, we urge government agencies to keep collaborating with us on implementation to ensure clear guidance is provided.
