New paper alert: A two-cutoff CSF Aβ42/40 approach improves Aβ detection in real world clinical settings. CSF Aβ42/40≥7.1 rules out amyloid, while ratios~5.5–7.1 benefit from Aβ PET. Key for Lecanemab stratification. #Alzheimers #Biomarkers 📄 doi.org/10.1002/dad2.70031

At #CTAD24, biomarker data suggest black and Hispanic people are less likely to have amyloid. Some suspect that comorbidities might contribute to cognitive decline. ow.ly/F0HG50Ubb22

I wouldn't start infusing everyone w iron or even supplementing w pills, but I do expect Fe homeostasis to be a more common target for dementia research in the years ahead nature.com/articles/s41380-0…

🧵 This is the iron molecule. As a psychiatrist, an iron infusion is one of the most common interventions I implement! Here’s why psychiatrists should know it better. Let's journey into ADHD and RLS for this thread: 👇 image: Iron complex (From Puglisi et al , 2011)

Medicine focuses a lot on the question “will this help my patient” but not on the question “when will it help my patient.” The latter becomes important as we age. We’ve developed a “time-to-benefit” tool on eprognosis.ucsf.edu to help answer this question. #FOAMed #meded

From pre-diabetes to Alzheimer’s disease in the cognitively normal, there is an ongoing push to label healthy individuals as sick. Who benefits from this and who is harmed? One of my favorite med journalism articles of 2024 dives into the debate. 🧵 1/4 latimes.com/science/story/20…

Where do I file my refund request for the thousands of dollars in NJ Turnpike tolls I’ve paid over the years to support NJ’s travel infrastructure? It’s unconscionable that NYers should have to pay to use NJ’s roads.
I am firmly opposed to any attempt to force through a congestion pricing proposal in the final months of the Biden Administration. My administration will continue the fight to block this plan in court.
