I hate #cancer I have lost close family members to cancer and have several loved ones who are learning to live with this diagnosis. Watching #PrincessKate having to disclose this very private and difficult journey to an insanely speculative and nosy world was heart wrenching and I wish her health and a speedy recovery 🙏🏾 It also highlighted why I was motivated to become a #pathologist - there is a #pathology physician in Kate’s medical team that provided that definitive, final diagnosis that may not have even been suspected prior to her surgery. The pathologist reviewed her tissue at the cellular (and possibly molecular) level and gave that final answer. The information from the pathology lab establishes the diagnosis and the prognosis (and later on the confirmation of remission) for all cancers. In my case it was my grandma’s cancer diagnosis that made me wonder about the mystery behind the diagnosis and sowed a seed to consider this diagnostic medical specialty.
