I'm excited to share the lab’s new paper on PDAC-associated cachexia on bioRxiv today, led by star postdoc @Nikita2106 Pancreatic cancer cachexia is mediated by PTHrP-driven disruption of adipose de novo lipogenesis A 🧵 below, if you're interested... biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

We are thrilled to share our latest work out today @Dev_Cell! Appendiceal adenocarcinoma (AC) is a rare, aggressive cancer that frequently spreads to the peritoneum. Until now, lack of robust preclinical models has severely limited drug discovery. cell.com/developmental-cell/…🧵👇 🔗

New publication from our group: what happens inside human endometrial tumors during a ketogenic diet? We analyzed paired tumor biopsies before and after a very low-carbohydrate intervention in women with endometrial cancer 🧵

Delighted to share that postdoc in the lab, Nikita Bhalerao, just got the NOA for her K99! In what has been a tough year for funding, nothing brings me more joy than to see Nikita's hard work pay off. Hiring committees, be on the lookout in the coming year!

Very excited to report on our lab’s unexpected adventure into subtyping cancer cachexia by way of anatomy, where we study the evolution of the bodies (not the genomes!) of patients with cancer during profound weight loss. Led by Sonia Boscenco. medrxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Marcus Ruscetti, PhD, is one of 13 researchers to receive the 2026 Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize: brnw.ch/21x2d6p Dr. Ruscetti will test if eliminating senescent cells in the liver can improve responses to immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer. @Marcus_Ruscetti @psscra

Grad students Calvin Johnson and @EthanHCChang attended Immunology 2026, the annual meeting of the American Association of Immunologists, this week. They both have exciting projects about immunosuppression in PDAC and are coming back re-energized by the meeting!

A little late, but congrats to grad student Calvin Johnson on being selected for the Best Poster Award and being awarded a lightning talk for our immunology program's annual retreat last week!

Congrats to @EthanHCChang for passing his Qualifying Exam! He is building subtype specific mouse models of PDAC and already has some exciting data looking at how this alters tumor host interactions! Congrats!

I can't think of a better lab to postdoc or be a tech in. Fantastic mentor, cutting edge science, and lots of fun!
Our lab is recruiting both a postdoc and research technician to start in May/June! If you know anyone interested in investigating mechanisms of metastasis and immune suppression in cancer through developing innovative mouse models and studying senescence, please spread the word!

Federal funding for US biomedical research is moribund. Since October 1 2025, NIH is -80% in new grants and -70% in values (total dollars). Labs are closing down and researchers are leaving science. To what end?

Too much data, too little thinking. A important essay from Ruslan Medzhitov on the importance of understanding data, not just generating it. A must read. @RMedzhitov @YaleIBIO nature.com/articles/s41577-0…

So happy to see the @CDMRP #PancreaticCancer Research Program (PCARP) come back, bigger than before. I served as Chair of the Programmatic Review Committee and this mechanism really helped many outstanding early & mid career investigators stay in the field. Thank you! 🙏

Congress has completed their work on FY26 spending bills and we’re so excited to share that because of you and your fellow PanCAN advocates, increases for #pancreaticcancer research were included. This is a major win! 👏 When negotiations for this fiscal year began, proposals included cuts to pancreatic cancer research — you refused to stay silent. You emailed, called, shared your stories and showed up again and again to make it clear that patients and families cannot afford to lose momentum. Thank you for capturing Congress’ attention and making them understand that new discoveries are on the horizon — they just need funding. Lawmakers ultimately rejected proposed cuts and prioritized patients, passing full-year spending bills that include meaningful increases for cancer research, with $47.2 billion allocated for the National Institutes of Health and $7.352 billion allocated for the National Cancer Institute. Also included was the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Act. This legislation allows the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a pathway for coverage for multi-cancer tests upon FDA-approval — early detection tests designed to screen for multiple cancer types including pancreatic cancer. And the power of PanCAN advocates is on full display as Congress reinstated the dedicated Pancreatic Cancer Research Program (PCARP) – previously eliminated – with $20 million in funding! This is the first increase for PCARP since FY21 and the most funding the program has ever received. Progress is powered by passionate people like you. Thank you for changing the story of pancreatic cancer for patients and families. 💜 For more, visit 🔗 pcan.at/advocacy.
