This social media ban for teens under 16 in Canada is wild considering the Parlimentary committee recommended in 2023 to expand MAID to "mature minors" which is 14 - 18. So to the Canadian government, no social media at age 14, but yes to MAID use? How does that make sense.

Culture Minister @MarcMillerVM initially said Bill C-34 social media ban would take effect immediately. Officials now say it will happen before addressing standards and privacy as contemplated by the law. Millions required to age verify without safeguards. x.com/mgeist/status/20654209…
Tens of millions of Canadians will be required to age verify to use social media when the ban launches. My post on how the government plans to implement it without standards, privacy review, or an enforcement mechanism with potential exemptions years away. michaelgeist.ca/2026/06/the-…

Bill C-34 is really being implemented primarily for Digital ID! Nothing else! Once they are able to verify age, the path now exists for a government across every major platform, you've effectively built into a national identity-checking system without ever holding a "national ID" debate. The hard part of any ID system is getting it built and getting people enrolled, and child safety solves both at once, because nobody can campaign against protecting kids without sounding like a monster. This isn't about the kids. This is about removing anonymity.

Somewhere along the way, the rights of victims’ families have been pushed aside. Having worked with countless families whose loved ones were murdered, I can tell you that when a person is killed, a part of that family dies too. Their lives are changed forever. They carry that sentence every day for the rest of their lives. Policies that place greater emphasis on the comfort of offenders than the lasting impact on victims’ families send the wrong message. IMO.

Canada allows minors into drug consumption sites, but would ban access to social media. Canadian 15-year-olds could soon face a regime disallowing Facebook use, while facing no barriers to injecting fentanyl at a government-run facility, writes Tristin Hopper nationalpost.com/opinion/can…

When housing activist @EricDLombardi entered the Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) leadership race this week, many conservatives throughout the province were thrilled. The 32-year-old political outsider is popular among moderates for his pragmatic centrism, and could find himself uniquely qualified to build a cross-partisan coalition that can topple the Ford government and end an era of populist incompetence. Is it just a coincidence that Brookfield has just created a new renewable energy company with Mitsubishi that's operating in a handful of European countries including France and Ireland, just two days before Mark Carney is going to France and Ireland? Carney gave no real reason why he's going over there other than "catalyse new investment into Canada, deepen trade".

To commemorate the death of CUSMA, I would like to take moment to pay tribute to the unbridled stupidity of Doug Ford, who ironically was pouring one out for the end of his politcial career. Great work @fordnation you got what you asked for.

Aka - Canada issues global IPO for more economic assets to add to the taxation and mortgage debt base. SOLD OUT
Canada is launching international ad campaigns to attract more global talent. Meanwhile, a Western University engineering graduate told Parliament it took him 500 applications and 2 years to land a low-paying job outside his field. Youth unemployment is near recession levels. New grads can't find work. Employers say they can't find talent. How can both be true at the same time?

How dare larkin only give 3 teams on his list and not allow his team to get a good return for him. Could be worse tho, he could nix a trade for a superstar winger, demand to only be traded to one team who was tampering him and then say fuck you and leave for that team anyway

Federal immigration officials just said the Liberals are planning a new taxpayer funded international advertising campaign to bring more foreign nationals to Canada to work. They're doing this the middle of a youth jobs crisis and a recession.

This is the wildest World Cup story yet. If someone in Toronto sells a ticket above face value they get fined $25,000 yet the city of Toronto bought 3,500 World Cup tickets early and then sold them to taxpayers at a markup as a “revenue generation strategy.” What the hell man.
NEW: The City of Toronto says only a fraction of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tickets it bought as an investment remain unsold, with the soccer gamble looking set to pay off a week before the games begin. #ToPoli globalnews.ca/news/11891194/…

Holy... as an Oilers fan, I have to admit: The shade being thrown at Toronto today is unbelievable. The Leafs didn't even make the playoffs, yet players and executives, keep finding ways to take shots at them. Wow...
