We are delighted to host and be faculty on the 5th @ALSGBandI Intermediate Skills in 🤖 Surgery Course at the new @IntuitiveSurg Reading Lab. Aimed at ST7/ST8/Post CCT trainees with basic 🤖 experience.
Focus will be on hands on training at the robotic console with use of @IntuitiveSurg synthetic models for 🤖 small bowel anastomosis and 🤖 inguinal hernia repair.

Laparoscopic or open abdominal surgery with thoracotomy for patients with #esophagealcancer: ROMIO #RCT

This pragmatic RCT conducted in 8 UK 🇬🇧 centres allocated patients with localized oesophageal cancer to
1⃣hybrid oesophagectomy with minimally invasive gastric mobilization and thoracotomy, or
2⃣open surgery
The primary outcome was patient-reported recovery in the 3 months following allocation, measured using the EORTC QLQ-C30 physical function subscale.
We found no evidence of a difference in recovery time between hybrid and open surgery, and a similar risk of key complications.

ALT An abstract for the article. Text reads: The Carbon footprint of surgical operations: a systematic review update. PN Robinson, KSB Surendran, SJ Liam, M Robinson. The MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane library databases were searched. Medical Devices and consumables were the greatest contributor to emissions, with material production and manufacture representing the majority of this carbon hotspot. The systematic review identifies medical devices and consumables as the largest carbon hotspot.
