That’s who California desperately needs
San José Mayor Matt Mahan has seen his odds to become the next California Governor more than double in the last 48 hours from 6% to 14%. He’s in second place behind Tom Steyer (53%)

Nick Shirley has everyone yelling about “fraud in CA” again. Strip the politics -> the numbers are the point: • CA EDD unemployment fraud was estimated at ~$20B-$32B during COVID • US “improper payments” run ~$162B/year (GAO/CMS style reporting) - a lot of it is docs verification failures This is what every biz learns the hard way: fraud scales when verification is weak and reconciliation is slooooow AI helps where it actually matters: - detect fake documents - extract fields attach provenance - reconcile invariants (line items -> totals, dates, tax rules) - flag anomalies before money moves Make fraud expensive and fraudsters accountable!
🚨 Here is the full 40 minutes of my crew and I exposing California fraud, Minnesota was big but California is even bigger... We uncovered over $170,000,000 in fraud as these fraudsters live in luxury with no consequences. Like it and share it, the fraud must STOP. We ALL work way too hard and pay too much in taxes for this to be happening. These fraudsters have been able to defraud American taxpayers for years without any pushback from the public and politicians. It is time to EXPOSE IT ALL and end America's fraud crisis.

"SAP costs $700M to upgrade, takes 3 years, and needs 50 Accenture consultants." 70% of enterprise transformations fail. This is why AI for legacy systems is a bigger opportunity than any shiny new AI app. The boring stack is where the money is. a16z.news/p/why-the-world-st…

Sacramento works great for the special interests, but not very well for the rest of us. The average family doesn't have a lobbyist. That's why we need a champion as governor.

PDFs are hostile. "Invisible text" prompt injection is a thing. Your system reads text humans can’t see -> and your LLM happily follows it. This isn’t prompting. It’s ingestion. Fix: - render what user saw - strip hidden layers - diff visible vs extracted text - provenance per field If you’re feeding raw PDF text into an agent, you’re giving untrusted input admin keys.

‼️A Bay Area couple lost nearly $60,000 not to a data breach, not to a phishing scam but to a chemically washed check pulled from a blue USPS mailbox. They wrote a $28,000 property tax check. Someone intercepted it, wiped the payee line clean, rewrote it to a stranger's name, and cashed it at an ATM in Minnesota. By the time they noticed, their bank had denied the fraud claim for reporting "too late." $60K out of pocket. For doing everything right. Check washing fraud isn't new but it's exploding. And tax payments are prime targets because they're high-value and completely predictable. This is exactly why at @Veryfi, we built fraud detection that goes beyond just reading documents. We detect every kind of alteration, digital tampering, and AI-generated fakes because fraud doesn't always look like fraud at first glance. If a system like this had been in place at the bank's check processing layer, that altered payee line would have flagged instantly‼️ The Glasers' story shouldn't happen to anyone. But until every financial institution takes document integrity seriously, it will keep happening. 🔗 Read full story here: abc7news.com/post/wells-farg… #FraudDetection #CheckFraud #DocumentSecurity #Fintech #OCR #Veryfi #CheckWashing

✨ Every brand's mascot starts somewhere... Meet Vee - Veryfi's mascot and the living embodiment of our brand. Vee didn't just appear overnight. It took research and dozens of sketches before our favorite one-eyed alien became the face of a document intelligence company.💚 🔗 Read the full story here: veryfi.com/technology/the-cr… 💡 How do you humanize your brand? #BrandDesign #MascotDesign #AITechnology #DocumentIntelligence #OCR #Veryfi #BrandIdentity #DesignThinking

Document fraud is now “passes OCR” “passes liveness.” Provenance beats ocr scores. If your trust primitive is “OCR text looked plausible,” you’re cooked. You need lineage cross-checks - and yes, real AI to fight AI fraud (this is exactly the direction we’re taking at Veryfi). blog.opencorporates.com/2026…

Document AI reliability isn’t a model problem. It’s a pipeline problem. One hostile PDF can trigger “could not find page-dimensions” → std::bad_alloc. Auto-OCR choice matters (engine/device/memory caps). Ship: timeouts, memory ceilings, quarantine lane, and an “evil PDF” eval suite. advisories.gitlab.com/pkg/np…

Permissions != policy. It’s just capability. Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat summarized emails labeled “confidential” despite DLP being configured. That’s the agent UX problem: • “user can access it” != “agent should surface it” • leakage surface grows even without cross-user access theregister.com/2026/02/18/m…

Peter Steinberger is joining OpenAI to drive the next generation of personal agents. He is a genius with a lot of amazing ideas about the future of very smart agents interacting with each other to do very useful things for people. We expect this will quickly become core to our product offerings. OpenClaw will live in a foundation as an open source project that OpenAI will continue to support. The future is going to be extremely multi-agent and it's important to us to support open source as part of that.
