Stronger Grip, Stronger Life: A 19-week resistance training program — 3 sessions/week at ~49% 1RM with structured sets and reps — is the sweet spot for boosting handgrip strength and fighting sarcopenia in older adults. Low grip strength is a hallmark of sarcopenia and is strongly associated with disability, frailty, and even mortality. It is often considered a “vital sign” for aging health. The authors of this study analyzed 13 randomized controlled trials (711 participants, mean age ~68 years, 80% women) to determine how different RT variables (frequency, intensity, sets, reps, training volume, and duration) affect handgrip strength The study identified an optimal training prescription: Frequency: 3 sessions per week Intensity: ~49% of 1RM Duration: ~19 weeks Sets/Reps: 6 sets × 16 reps Exercises: ~15 per session Volume: ~1,400 reps per week Previous research established that RT improves strength, but lacked clarity on optimal dosing. This study integrates data across multiple trials and applies advanced statistical modeling to define specific dose ranges (e.g., 2–5 sessions/week, 30–75% 1RM, 10–24 reps). Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (SVEPM) 2025 conference in Berlin, Germany. It was an incredible experience to engage with leading experts in veterinary epidemiology, exchange ideas, and explore cutting-edge research, particularly in epidemiological methods and their application in disease surveillance. I also had the chance to present part of my PhD research, where I employ a Bayesian latent class model to estimate the true prevalence of Salmonella Dublin and explore associated factors. It was great to discuss my work with fellow researchers and receive valuable feedback. A big thanks to the SVEPM organizers for putting together such a well-structured, high-quality conference. Jusqu'aux travaux de Noël Hendrickson, très peu d'efforts avaient été consacrés à la création d'une théorie convaincante de la causalité dans l'analyse du renseignement. Dans la lignée des récentes tentatives d'intégration de la théorie du renseignement à la philosophie, cet article, rédigé par Carles Ortola, vise à contribuer à la philosophie du renseignement en définissant une théorie de la causalité qui lui soit propre. La « Théorie unifiée pour l'analyse du renseignement », comme ce compte de causalité est nommé, est destinée à intégrer en un seul ensemble les théories normales et exceptionnelles de Richard K.
