A very well written science communication summary of the results of researchers Z. R. Thornburg et al. (2026), who created a #4D #computermodel of a #bacterialcell reduced to the genetically essential #molecules necessary to simulate #cellularprocesses. The real-world model was the in ruminants parasitic #bacterium #Mycoplasma #mycoides (#Mollicutes, #Bacillati), from whose somewhat larger #genome 493 genes were incorporated into the computer model. Subsequently, Acetocarmine, a DNA-specific stain, is employed to selectively highlight chromosomes within the root cells. When observed under the microscope, this prepared onion root sample unveils a captivating display of cells and chromosomes in various stages of cell division, such as prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
