An elder in Northern Kenya once said, “A good road is more than a path—it is a promise that no community will be left behind.” Today, that promise is steadily becoming a reality along the Isiolo–Mandera Regional Road Corridor, a transformative investment that is reshaping Northern Kenya’s connectivity landscape and unlocking new possibilities for generations to come. Spanning 764 km, the @WorldBankKenya -funded Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP) road will link Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties, opening new opportunities for trade, investment, education, healthcare, and social integration across the region. For communities that have long faced challenges associated with distance and limited infrastructure, this corridor represents more than a road—it is a gateway to opportunity, inclusion, and economic growth. Progress on Package 1 continues to accelerate. Lot 1 (Isiolo–Kulamawe) has achieved over 21 km of completed blacktop, while Lot 2 (Kulamawe–Modogashe) has delivered 35 km of tarmac. Together, Package 1 has now recorded an impressive 56 km of tarmacked roads, bringing communities closer, reducing travel barriers, lowering transportation costs, and improving access to essential services across Northern Kenya. Construction is advancing simultaneously across all three road packages of the Isiolo–Mandera Corridor. Package 1, covering the Isiolo–Modogashe section, continues to register significant progress and is already delivering tangible benefits to communities along the route. Further north. Package 2, which stretches from Modogashe to Wajir, is progressing alongside the other sections, ensuring that connectivity gains are being realized across multiple counties at the same time rather than in phases. Meanwhile, Package 3, covering the Wajir–Mandera section, is equally advancing, reinforcing the project's commitment to creating a seamless transport corridor that will strengthen regional integration and unlock economic opportunities across Northern Kenya. The concurrent implementation of all three packages demonstrates a strong commitment to fast-tracking connectivity, trade, investment, and regional integration. It reflects a shared vision of creating a modern transport corridor that will stimulate economic activity, strengthen cross-border trade, improve mobility, and support long-term development throughout the region. The success of the Isiolo–Mandera Road, however, is not only being measured in kilometres of tarmac laid. Its true impact is also reflected in the trust being built among communities, the partnerships being strengthened, and the sense of ownership being fostered among the people who stand to benefit from this transformative project. This is where FCDC continues to play a critical role. @FCDCKenya has emerged as the bridge between government, development partners, and local communities—ensuring that the benefits of this transformative corridor are inclusive, accountable, and owned by the people it serves. Through continuous engagement, dialogue, and community participation, FCDC is helping ensure that development is not only delivered to communities but shaped with them. As the corridor steadily takes shape, it is connecting more than towns and counties. It is connecting people to opportunity, businesses to markets, students to schools, patients to healthcare services, and communities to a future of greater prosperity and resilience. Because the true measure of this road is not only the kilometres completed, but the trust, opportunity, dignity, and hope it delivers along the way. This is development done right. #IsioloManderaRoad #HoAGDP #NorthernKenya #InfrastructureForDevelopment #RegionalIntegration #FCDC #CommunityDrivenDevelopment #TransformingLives

The KfW team appreciated how PPAF’s community-driven approach under LACIP has positively transformed the lives of 𝟭.𝟳 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 individuals in security-constrained areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly by empowering women in regions where cultural norms restrict their mobility and access to opportunities. In response to a question on sustainability, the CEO emphasised that PPAF invests in the capacity building of its grassroots civil society partners, enabling communities to lead their own socio-economic development and ensure long-term impact. Youth Agripreneurs: Turning Heads, Changing perceptions one fish at a time. When we visited the Acting CEO of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA), his confidence was unwavering: “The local community will love the fish.” And he was absolutely right. This is the power of having a results-driven value chain development expert at the helm of a parastatal mandated to champion the sustainable growth of fisheries, aquaculture, and the blue economy, thereby accelerating socio-economic development. With the right expertise and ecosystem support, communities can and will become strong markets for locally farmed fish. At Jacob’s Ladder Africa, we are keen to partner with forward-thinking county governments, development partners, and government agencies to unlock green economy opportunities for youth. The latest fish marketing awareness campaign in Makueni is a clear example of such partnerships where we are co-creating solutions with youth intrapreneurs, even in the marketing and sales phase. During the campaign, the community was introduced to the catfish through live demos on gutting, cleaning, and cooking catfish, tackling common myths around fish farming in ASAL regions head-on. This initiative sparked meaningful conversations around aquaculture’s potential to: • Drive local food production • Create green, climate-resilient jobs through the local community sale of fish • Empower youth in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) All of this is made possible through our ongoing partnership with the County Government of Makueni under a shared vision: to build a strong pipeline of young agripreneurs by empowering them with skills and knowledge needed to increase their chances of success in agribusiness - the aquaculture program being one of them. We believe that by investing in the development of a green African workforce, we are laying the foundation for a more food-secure, economically vibrant, and sustainable future for the continent. Join us in backing the Now Generation of resilient green economy leaders. Empowering Communities, One Saving Group at a Time 💼🌱 In @RwandaEast, a new wave of innovation is reshaping how rural communities build resilience and financial strength. Through the #TREPA project, @Cordaid with the back up of the local government—has introduced a powerful community-led solution: Savings Groups Ambassadors (#SGAs). A total of 32 SGAs from @NyagatareDistr & @GatsiboDistrict have been identified and trained to lead the charge in community savings mobilization. These ambassadors are more than just volunteers—they are change agents equipped to: ✅ Support real-time monitoring and data collection ✅ Coach and mentor Savings Groups ✅ Promote a culture of saving and self-reliance ✅ Boost visibility and ownership of the TREPA project By placing leadership directly in the hands of communities, this grassroots-driven model is not only building financial inclusion but also reinforcing social cohesion and long-term resilience. This is more than just savings—it’s a movement. A movement for dignity, opportunity, and local empowerment. #TREPA #SavingsForResilience #CordaidRwanda #FinancialInclusion #CommunityDrivenDevelopment

What if we told you the tastiest catfish in Makueni was grown by local youth... in ponds they built themselves? There’s a quiet revolution happening in the unsuspecting streets of Wote, Makueni County @OfficialMakueni - and it tastes amazing. On Thursday, 12th June 2025, Jacob’s Ladder Africa (JLA), in collaboration with the @Kenya__Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA), hosted a vibrant Fish Eating Awareness Campaign to promote the nutritional value of fish, encourage local consumption, and strengthen market linkages for youth-led aquaculture enterprises. Our pond-grown fish, raised by local youth trained and supported by JLA, are now market-ready, and their quality is turning heads. These young farmers were equipped with everything they needed, including pond construction, fingerlings, fish feed, daily monitoring, and technical and agripreneurial training. And the result? Locally grown catfish that quite literally surprise your taste buds. No extra spices or accompaniments needed - this fish stands in a class of its own. The event featured an exciting array of catfish dishes - from samosas and fish balls to fillets, soups, and fried whole catfish - showcasing the delicious versatility of this underrated protein. The high turnout and enthusiastic reception highlighted how youth-led aquaculture is transforming lives and local economies. This is more than just a campaign; it's more than fish. It’s about jobs, food security, community pride, and sustainable development. It’s a glimpse into what’s possible when youth are empowered with the right tools, backed by local government, and connected to real market opportunities. Want to taste Makueni’s finest catfish? SOLO, through its SPEAK program funded by @theGCERF, successfully conducted workshops for local communities on the development of Peacebuilding Action Plans. These workshops emphasized the importance of community-driven approaches to resolving conflicts, enhancing social resilience, and devising innovative peacebuilding mechanisms. The events brought together a diverse and influential group of community peace activists who praised SOLO’s significant contributions to peacebuilding and social cohesion in #Kismayo and its surrounding areas. Over the past two years, SOLO has played a pivotal role in strengthening preventive actions against violence in Lower Juba, Somalia. By equipping local communities with essential knowledge and skills in peacebuilding, SOLO has fostered a culture of empowerment and self-reliance.
