Today, Nkululeko Tshabalala represented PACE at the IGU-CGE Conference 2026, contributing to important discussions on the future of evidence-informed decision-making #EIDM and its role in addressing poverty and inequality. Drawing on PACE's experience as a knowledge broker, Nkululeko reflected on the challenges posed by fragmented evidence ecosystems and how these can limit evidence use and slow real-world impact. The discussions also explored the future of evidence synthesis in the age of AI, highlighting the importance of adaptation and innovation in strengthening EIDM approaches. A key theme throughout the conversation was that successful evidence-informed decision-making requires meaningful engagement from a range of stakeholders, including decision-makers, practitioners, researchers, and affected communities. Building trust and fostering strong relationships remain essential for creating sustainable and institutionalised evidence use. We are proud to contribute to these global conversations and to continue advancing evidence use that supports better decisions and improved outcomes across Africa. #IGUCGE2026 #EvidenceInformedDecisionMaking #EIDM #KnowledgeBrokering #EvidenceUse #PublicPolicy #ResearchImpact #PACE #EvidenceForDevelopment

As part of our commitment to expanding knowledge production and strengthening research capacity, IGHD, in partnership with the Catholic University of Guinea-Bissau, in March, 2026, supported a three-day training workshop for 12 enumerators and 4 field supervisors who will contribute to a national Research Capacity Assessment in Guinea-Bissau. Led by IGHD's Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Associate, Dr. Almakio Phiri, the training equipped participants with practical skills in ethical research practices, data collection, interviewing techniques and digital research tools, laying the groundwork for the generation of high-quality evidence to inform future #health and #development priorities. This initiative reflects our broader vision for 2026 and beyond: strengthening local research ecosystems, building institutional capacity, and ensuring that countries have the skills, systems, and evidence needed to shape their own development agendas. Through partnerships with universities, researchers, policymakers, and communities, we're working to promote research excellence, evidence-informed decision-making, and sustainable development outcomes across Guinea-Bissau and beyond. We are grateful to the Catholic University of Guinea-Bissau, Dr. Magda Robalo , and all participants whose commitment and enthusiasm are helping build a stronger future for research and innovation in Guinea-Bissau. #IGHD #ResearchCapacity #CapacityBuilding #GuineaBissau #GlobalHealth #EvidenceForDevelopment #KnowledgeProduction #ResearchEcosystems

African governments have repeatedly pledged their dedication to ensuring good health and well-being for all citizens, acknowledging that robust health systems form the backbone of sustainable development. However, even after two decades of advancement, universal health coverage (UHC) continues to elude a significant number of countries across the continent. AFIDEP co-convenes the Africa at @WorldBankGroup / International Monetary Fund (@IMFNews) Spring Meetings 2026 in Washington DC. Our Senior Research & Policy Analyst, Nurudeen Alhassan, Ph.D., joins leading voices to elevate African perspectives in global discourse—driving policy commitment and action toward increased financing, greater efficiency, and more equitable access to public services and resources that improve lives. Under the theme Accelerating Africa’s Transformation, AFIDEP’s Director, Human Capital Development, Dr Naa Dodua Dodoo, will deliver opening remarks at a high-level Panel 3 dialogue on strengthening Africa’s development and health financing agenda. As demographic pressures intensify and climate change drives new health risks, the question of how African countries mobilise, allocate, prioritise, and sustain financing for health remains central to the continent’s transformation. The session will explore practical strategies for strengthening and sustaining health financing systems across Africa, including how governments, development partners, and the private sector can collaborate to scale effective models, reduce constraints, and unlock more sustainable financing pathways. Health financing is not a technical footnote — it determines who gets care, when, and at what quality. This is precisely why AFIDEP’s work matters. By bridging the gap between research and policy, we support governments and institutions to make informed, impactful decisions that strengthen health systems and advance sustainable development across Africa. Africa's population is projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 and with it, a substantial surge in demand for health services. Yet, current financing levels remain critically insufficient to meet this growing need, leaving health systems under mounting pressure. That is the conversation we need to be having at the highest levels of global policymaking. AFIDEP is proud to join Nkafu Policy Institute, AUDA NEPAD, Afrobarometer, and the Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation as they all convene the @WorldBankGroup / IMF (@IMFNews) Spring Meetings 2026. 📅 April 15, 2026 📍 Washington Plaza, Grand Ballroom B&C — Washington, D.C. 🎯 Theme: Accelerating Africa's Transformation Panel 3 — Rethinking Health Financing in Africa: Unlocking Sustainable Pathways for Health Systems Resilience. This panel will explore innovative and durable financing solutions that can withstand political instability, economic uncertainty, shifting global aid landscapes, and climate shocks — building health systems that truly endure. For over two decades, governments across the continent have pledged to deliver quality healthcare for all. Yet, universal health coverage (UHC) remains out of reach for millions; not for lack of commitment, but for lack of sustainable, resilient financing. On Friday, April 10, the Evidence for Development (E4D) project of the Center successfully concluded a 2-day intensive capacity-building training in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for District Assembly Planning Officers from all nine districts in the Oti Region. The workshop strengthened participants’ M&E competencies, sharpened their data collection and reporting practices, and enhanced their ability to effectively track development projects from inception through to impact. By equipping frontline planning officers with the right tools and frameworks, E4D continues to invest in the people responsible for translating development plans into tangible, measurable outcomes at the district level. #CDDGhana #EvidenceForDevelopment #LocalGovernance
