Dear
@RDBrwanda,
@visitrwanda_now, and
@afrika_jean,
We sincerely appreciate your continued dedication and tireless efforts in promoting and branding our beloved country on the global stage.
With great respect, I would like to humbly submit a proposal and request:
When high-profile international visitors come to Rwanda and are interviewed, kindly encourage them to speak with clarity and accuracy regarding our history.
As officially recorded by
@Ibuka_Rwanda,
@Unity_MemoryRw, and
@RwandaGov over one million lives were lost (1,074,017 victims) during the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. This reality must be acknowledged and communicated truthfully not as โmore than 800,000โ, but as the genocide it was and in the magnitude it holds.
Secondly, to date, only the states of Utah and Texas in the United States officially recognize the term โ1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.โ We believe that guests who visit Rwanda to witness its incredible transformation should be made aware of this truth and, when speaking publicly, use the historically accurate terminology.
To
@GMA and
@RobinRoberts, thank you for visiting Rwanda and for witnessing firsthand the remarkable progress and enduring strength of our nation.
Our country has changed for good and forever.
Warm regards
