#EventUpdate | International Global-South Climate Risk Symposium 2025, hosted by IPE Global Limited and Esri India.
It was a wrap to the much-awaited, symposium where climate leaders from government, international organizations, CSOs, and innovators came together from various global south countries.
As envisioned, the symposium brought forward diverse perspectives, practical insights, and critical reflections from Indian and global south contexts on managing extreme events.
The welcome remarks by Ashwajit Singh, Managing Director, IPE Global, and context-setting addresses by Abinash Mohanty, Ing Mohanty, Global Sector Head-Climate Change and Sustainability, IPE Global, and Agendra Kumar-MD-Esri India, who underscored the urgent need for climate risk management as extreme weather events intensify across the global South and how this isn’t just a national concern. It is a pan-Global South emergency.
A landmark moment was the release of the issue note "Weathering the Storm – Managing Monsoons in a Warming Climate" which provides critical information on heat stress and erratic and incessant rainfall scenarios for 2030-40. More here.
The symposium also embarked with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between IPE Global and the African Centre of Meteorological Application for Development (ACMAD), marking a step towards a unified climate action in the Global South, fostering solidarity.
The key note address of the symposium was delivered by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi (Former Minister of Climate Change, UAE), who emphasised on navigating the Future: The Impact of Climate Change”, reflecting on the urgent need for global cooperation and innovation in addressing climate risks—particularly within the Global South.
