Building my Tactical Squad Command Interface, I obsessed over one thing:
How fast can someone read life-or-death info on adrenaline?
Answer: Not by adding more UI.
It's subtraction ruthless hierarchy controlled structure.
Normal combat → calm, modular HUD. Predictable scan paths. Stable colors. Zero panic.
Critical state → positions locked, but feeling unstable:
- Red only where death is close
- Subtle micro-distortions
- Heartbeat monitor turns from decor → pure tension
AAA game UI isn't flashy overlays.
It's designing for human limits under cognitive load.
Still iterating.
But one truth stands:
Clarity under pressure = real design maturity.
