Here’s an example of Modern Selective Memory.
Three Men. Three Hard Bastards. Three Very Different Legacies.
They were all ruthless, damaged men shaped by war and trauma. All three were willing to do horrific things, and each should be judged not just by their goals but by the scale of what they were prepared to do to achieve them.
Winston Churchill
A lifelong soldier who had seen the face of war long before World War Two. He fought in Sudan, the Boer War, and barely survived the trenches of World War One. Throughout the 1930s, he repeatedly warned the world about Adolf Hitler but was dismissed as a warmonger and a has-been. When Britain stood alone in 1940, he refused to negotiate with Nazi Germany. In his first speech as Prime Minister, he told his people: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.” He was arrogant, racist, and made terrible decisions, especially his handling of the Bengal Famine in India. But he kept Britain in the fight when almost no one else had the stomach for it. He was a proper cunt, but needed.
Adolf Hitler
A decorated frontline soldier who spent four years in the trenches of World War One, only to return to a Germany in ruins, humiliated, starving, and drowning in debt. He genuinely believed he was saving his people from betrayal and destruction. But he was a fanatical racial ideologue. His obsession with the Aryan race was not just talk; he had detailed plans for the entire world. Jews were to be exterminated, seen as vermin. Slavs were to be enslaved or wiped out. Every race was to be catalogued, ranked, and placed under German domination. He would not have stopped at Europe after Barbarossa. His ultimate goal was total racial conquest of the planet. His drug addiction towards the end is what many don’t know or don’t want to know about.
Joseph Stalin
Here’s the one people know about but really don’t want to fully understand.
This man murdered more of his own people than Hitler and Churchill combined, between 15 and 25 million dead. He engineered the Holodomor famine that starved millions of Ukrainians. He carried out the Great Purge, slaughtering hundreds of thousands of his own officers, generals, and citizens right before the biggest war in history. He built the vast Gulag slave labour system and carried out brutal mass deportations of entire ethnic groups. He turned mass murder of his own population into an efficient industrial system that ran even in peacetime, with complete brutality toward anyone who disagreed.
All three were hardened, ruthless men shaped by war and trauma. But only one turned the systematic extermination of his own citizens into a perfected industrial machine, and somehow still gets romanticised by parts of the modern left (Bimbos), because they believe “Marx, Lenin and Stalin weren’t that bad.”
You still see people on European streets proudly waving the hammer and sickle, treating communism like some noble, “progressive” ideology.
They don’t truly understand, or worse, don’t want to understand, the severity of what they’re supporting.
That’s not ignorance. That’s selective memory.
