These places are hell holes. They are dangerous, regardless of cost of prestige. If anyone denies visitation or arbitrarily implements “visiting hours” — get your loved one out that day. Do not report. Do not ask questions. Get your loved one out.
I learned this the very hard way. I’ve had multiple hellish homes and ALFs (even a national chain) attempt to keep my parents against their will.
@BukekileD succeeded. She received a letter from POA terminating relationship, ignored it, continued compensating herself the next five months, and retaliated after I placed welfare-call. Within three weeks from said call he was hospitalized with sepsis due to E. Coli, Sepsis due to UTI, and ACUTE kidney injury. He passed away within ~5 weeks of said welfare check. She killed him.
The director of Janitorial services at Sunrise followed me into my Mom’s room, slammed the door behind her yelling, “You’re not taking your mom anywhere!” I was packing my Mom’s room when she waltzed in. She then came outside to join my Mom and me, stood directly over my Mom, ordering my Mom to call her son. That lunatic had her tantrum while she watched my Mom and I roll on out of there.
Then Arms of Hell in Plano. I can’t…it’s traumatizing still. In a nutshell, my mom’s roommates were the male owner , his friend that arrived from Africa three months prior where said owner “was teaching him business” and another friend of theirs. Also the owner of Plano home is friends/relatives with the one my Dad was at AND Milton nearly killed my Mom.
I was not there when ”Terri” answered my Mom’s phone for her. She did not say a word while I repeatedly said Mom? Mom? So grateful my Mom mustered the strength to say my name because everything in her voice told me she was in dire need of medical attention. I said, “I’m calling 911.” And only then Terri spoke. ”We gave her OJ and are going to wait an hour. I hung up and called. The amazing Plano EMT rushed her to hospital. Her blood sugar was 25. I was not even present when knew she was not okay.
I beg anyone reading this to heed this warning.

This woman's mother is very ill and in pain. They will not allow her to visit her mother in her room. Instead, they will make her mother get up and go to a common area. The woman cannot believe it's happening and is arguing with a nurse. What would you do if it was your parent?
