Please check out my blog about fatherhood, mental health, music, & life itself. I wrote today about the election, and recently I posted a mini-travelogue. I have also written extensively about the horrifying abyss of depression. Thanks for caring! jeremywingert79.substack.com…

Happy Halloween! 👻 A patterned arrangement of photos, each of an analytical balance/scale that is colored gray? Or, perhaps... a "grayscale photopattern"? (costume inspired by our lab's recent work here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…)

Btw, the answer to Bari’s question is simple: The worthy successor to Keller … is every single person who loves people and lives Christ in the same manner Keller did. Without pretense, without mandates, and without self-aggrandizement.

Then Jesus said unto the sick, “you better have insurance.” Then Jesus said unto the stranger, “are you here legally?” Then Jesus said unto the hungry, “my taxes better not be paying for these loaves and fishes.” Then Jesus said unto the poor, “this is your own fault.”

Loved this scene. Epic and moving!
I had the honour of a lifetime compositing & developing the look of the Balrog in this scene. It’s an incredibly personal body of work for many reasons. Please know there is so, so much love living in these pixels. From me & the rest of the team at @ILMVFX. #VFX

Ngl, I have just genuinely enjoyed S2 of #TheRingsOfPower and I don't understand why some seem to find it so hard to receive. There are exceptional moments all throughout the season, especially in scenes with Celebrimbor & Sauron.

Loopy Taming Audio-Driven Portrait Avatar with Long-Term Motion Dependency paper page: huggingface.co/papers/2409.0… With the introduction of diffusion-based video generation techniques, audio-conditioned human video generation has recently achieved significant breakthroughs in both the naturalness of motion and the synthesis of portrait details. Due to the limited control of audio signals in driving human motion, existing methods often add auxiliary spatial signals to stabilize movements, which may compromise the naturalness and freedom of motion. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end audio-only conditioned video diffusion model named Loopy. Specifically, we designed an inter- and intra-clip temporal module and an audio-to-latents module, enabling the model to leverage long-term motion information from the data to learn natural motion patterns and improving audio-portrait movement correlation. This method removes the need for manually specified spatial motion templates used in existing methods to constrain motion during inference. Extensive experiments show that Loopy outperforms recent audio-driven portrait diffusion models, delivering more lifelike and high-quality results across various scenarios.

My favourite discovery ever has just come online. Can I please tell you about some seriously wacky molecular biology? The story starts with a reverse transcriptase that SOMEHOW defends bacteria from viruses. (👇 I recommend sound ON for the video 🎹) 1/

It's no wonder that we have countless ppl deconstructing; many were raised in families & churches that systematically built intricate frameworks. Such frameworks continue to be exposed. Do we have the capacity to listen? /end x.com/MBurtwrites/status/170…

Thinking today about how deconstruction as a concept is right there in 1 Cor 3:10-15. Whatever our opinion re: term, it will come to us all. Paul uses metaphor of building materials to show that everything not of Christ *will be* revealed. Context is fascinating to me. 🧵/9
