It is important to restate a basic strategic reality. Decades of coercive measures, sanctions, and political isolation have not produced the outcomes often attributed to them. They have neither advanced stated policy objectives nor contributed meaningfully to regional stabilization. Increasingly, even within policy circles in Washington, there is recognition that engagement not isolation offers a more effective framework for addressing complex regional dynamics. #SanctionsPolicy #USPolicy #Engagement #RegionalStability Attempts to characterize this policy shift as inherently dangerous are analytically weak. They reveal more about the persistence of outdated assumptions than about present-day conditions. The continued reliance on recycled tropes particularly through unverified commentary on social media has limited value in shaping serious policy discourse and often serves to obstruct rather than clarify. #PolicyDebate #StrategicThinking #Disinformation #HornOfAfrica Eritrea’s policy orientation has remained consistent since independence: a framework grounded in sovereignty, non-interference, and development strategies that prioritize national ownership over dependency-based models. This is not an ideological posture, but a structural choice aligned with broader global shifts toward diversified partnerships and reduced reliance on asymmetric aid architectures. #Sovereignty #DevelopmentPolicy #NonInterference #EconomicStrategy Claims that improved Eritrea–U.S. relations would inherently destabilize the region lack substantive grounding. Eritrea has consistently articulated positions anchored in territorial integrity, respect for international law, and peaceful coexistence. Its regional posture reflects security considerations shaped by historical experience, not expansionist intent. Efforts to reduce this complexity to simplistic narratives do not advance understanding of the Horn of Africa’s security environment. #RegionalSecurity #InternationalLaw #Peace #HornOfAfrica

The move into Grade 10 should mark an exciting step in a child’s education. For many Kenyan families, this January began with a difficult financial calculation. School fees, uniforms, bedding and transport can easily exceed a month’s income, forcing parents to borrow to get their children through the school gate. In this thoughtful piece, our Office Administrator, Tabitha Ngángá examines how the cost of entering Senior School is placing growing pressure on both families and schools. When public funding does not fully cover the cost of transition, the remaining burden often falls on parents, and short-term digital loans become the quickest way to raise the money needed for school entry. The article takes a closer look at this challenge and highlights practical ways to ease the pressure on families while protecting the goal of universal secondary education. Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening humanitarian operations as it moves to renew its cooperation agreement with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The assurance came during a high-level meeting in Abuja between the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu @atikuabagudu, and the leadership of the international medical humanitarian organisation. The discussions focused on renewing the Federal Cooperation Agreement and deepening collaboration to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian services across Nigeria. Bagudu acknowledged MSF’s vital support to vulnerable communities while outlining challenges including weak infrastructure, limited laboratory capacity, poor ambulance services and disparities in health outcomes. He stressed the government’s commitment to improving coordination, accountability and long-term planning to strengthen health systems and reduce reliance on external aid. MSF Country Director, Dr. Pitchou Kayembe, welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to sustaining life-saving humanitarian support in Nigeria. #Nigeria #MSF #HumanitarianAid #PublicHealth #HealthcareSystem #HumanitarianResponse #BudgetPlanning #HealthPartnership #NigeriaHealth #DevelopmentPolicy
