🤔 Have you ever wondered what’s actually on the surface of Mars? 🌊 Do you think Mars might have had water millions of years ago? In collaboration with the @NASAJPL, we introduce Mars-Bench, the first benchmark that helps us answer such questions using machine learning. Our paper has been accepted at @NeurIPSConf 2025; discover more about Mars-Bench: 📄 Paper - arxiv.org/pdf/2510.24010 🌐 Project page - mars-bench.github.io/ #Mars #MarsScience #MarsExploration #SpaceExploration #SatelliteData #RoverData #NASA #JPL #Research #PlanetaryScience #EarthandPlanetaryScience #RemoteSensing #GeospatialAI #FoundationModels #Benchmarking #DistributionShift #OODGeneralization #NeurIPS2025 #ComputerVision #AI4Science

Check out this wild shot of Mars’ north polar ice cap 🧊—those spiral-shaped grooves? They’re real. They're carved by katabatic winds—cold, dense air rushing out from the pole at up to 400 km/h, eroding ice as it goes. The twisty pattern? That’s thanks to the Coriolis effect—just like hurricanes on Earth, the Martian winds spiral due to the planet’s rotation. Over millions of years, these winds have shaved off ~40,000 km³ of ice (that's 10x the Grand Canyon 😳). The result? This mesmerizing spiral pattern made of chained rectangular troughs. 📸: Thanks to Space Magazin Space nerds: @NASA @esaoperations @NASAMars @HiRISE @elakdawalla @AstroKatie @marscuriosity #Mars #Space #Astronomy #PlanetaryScience #CoriolisEffect #WindErosion #HiRISE #MarsScience

Launched on April 7, 2001, and entering orbit on Oct. 24 that same year, NASA's Mars Odyssey has been studying the Red Planet for 24 years—far surpassing expectations. Its mission? To map chemical elements, study geology, and assess radiation levels for future human exploration. The spacecraft delivered. Odyssey has helped identify subsurface water ice—frozen H₂O, as opposed to other ices like methane or carbon dioxide—and has provided radiation data crucial to astronaut safety, all while capturing over 1.4 million images and completing more than 100,000 orbits. It also served as a communications relay for rovers like Curiosity and Perseverance. Even now, Odyssey is busy monitoring clouds, fog, frost, and mapping surface rocks to guide future landings. A big thanks to this space legend—and to the exceptional engineering and fuel management that keep it going strong. #MarsOdyssey #ExploringMars #RedPlanetJourney #MarsExploration #OdysseyToMars #MarsMission #DiscoverMars #MarsLegacy #NASA #MarsScience #SpaceOdyssey #MarsDiscoveries #JourneyToMars #MarsExplorers

NASA’s InSight lander data reveals Mars may have a solid inner core, much like Earth’s, within its liquid outer core. Researchers observed seismic waves passing through and bouncing off a potential solid core, suggesting it’s about 600 km in radius, or a fifth of Mars’ size. This discovery could solve mysteries about Mars’ geology and formation, but it raises new questions—like why Mars lacks a magnetic field. Skeptics caution the evidence is preliminary, but it opens exciting possibilities for understanding the Red Planet. #MarsDiscovery #NASAInsight #RedPlanet #MarsScience #SpaceExploration
