Pollution is one of the leading threats to planetary and human well-being, yet global responses remain fragmented and insufficient. In Geneva, I held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Fancy Too, Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, as I lead Kenya’s delegation to the inaugural Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP-CWP). This engagement underscores Kenya’s commitment to advancing science-driven, coordinated global action to address pollution. We remain firmly committed to evidence-based solutions that protect human health, safeguard ecosystems, and strengthen global environmental governance. Kenya’s participation in the ISP-CWP reflects our growing leadership in global environmental governance and our enduring commitment to multilateral cooperation. #ScienceBasedPolicy #MultilateralAction #EnvironmentalGovernance @KenyaMissionUNG @FancyToo7

The involvement of Norwegian forces signifies a further expansion of this multinational enforcement operation, underscoring its coordinated nature. The participation of multiple allied nations in boarding a civilian vessel under the flag of a major power represents an action of considerable diplomatic and military weight. Such operations, conducted in international waters, exist at a complex intersection of maritime law, sanctions enforcement, and alliance politics. Their legitimacy and long-term consequence will be scrutinised against the strict adherence to established legal procedures and the paramount imperative of ensuring the safety of all civilian crew members involved. Multilateral actions carry greater authority but also share the responsibility for de-escalation and stability. — Adhoura Aks #AdhouraAks #MaritimeLaw #InternationalSecurity #Geopolitics #Diplomacy #MultilateralAction #RuleOfLaw

Over the past week, our city the Green City in the Sun has once again been the meeting place of the world. We have witnessed inspiring discussions, honest debates and deep commitment to tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. It is a great honour and privilege, on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya, to welcome you to this host country reception as #UNEA7 enters its final stretch. As we approach the conclusion of #UNEA7, allow me to express our sincere appreciation to all delegations for their dedication, constructive spirit and tireless work. The conversations and negotiations taking place here in Nairobi reaffirm the enduring power of multilateralism, the belief that, despite our different circumstances, we share one planet and one responsibility. Kenya is immensely proud to host @UNEP and #UNEA. For over fifty years, Nairobi has stood as the global capital for environmental diplomacy a place where nations come together to shape the world’s environmental agenda and renew their collective ambition for sustainability. This Assembly’s theme, “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet,” resonates deeply with Kenya’s own journey. Through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, we are championing green and inclusive growth, from clean energy and ecosystem restoration to climate-smart agriculture and sustainable waste management. As we gather this evening, we do so with gratitude and, for some of us, perhaps with a quick glance at the clock, knowing that negotiations are still ongoing just across the rooms. We see you and thank you. As the work continues, let us take a moment to pause and appreciate how far we have come. Over the past days, #UNEA7 has brought together ministers, scientists, youth, Indigenous leaders and communities from every corner of the world. We have exchanged ideas, built consensus and most importantly, strengthened the partnerships that keep multilateralism alive. Let this be a moment of connection and appreciation. It is a chance to unwind, to celebrate our shared achievements and to remind ourselves that behind every decision and resolution are people - people who care deeply about the future of our planet. So, as we enjoy this Kenyan evening, the music, the culture, the conversation, let us carry with us the same spirit of openness and collaboration that has defined this Assembly. And to those still negotiating, may your discussions be fruitful and your outcomes reflect the unity that Nairobi always inspires. On behalf of His Excellency the President @WilliamsRuto, the Government, and the people of Kenya, I thank all delegations, observers and partners especially @UNEP for making this Assembly a success. @Environment_Ke #UnitedForOurPlanet #ResilientPlanetNow #NairobiForNature #MultilateralAction #SustainableSolutionsUNEA7

The Youth Cafe is honoured to be participating in the Open-Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR), taking place from 1–5 December 2025 at UNEP. From the opening session, opened by UNEP ED Inger Andersen who welcomed the delegates to Nairobi, the tone has been clear: renewed energy, strong multilateral cooperation and an urgent call to align global environmental ambition with concrete action as the world prepares for UNEA-7. With UNEP’s new Medium-Term Strategy (MTS 2026–2029) pending approval, we are engaging in discussions that lay the foundation for transformative, science-based environmental governance for the next four years. Guided by the UNEA-7 mantra “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”The Youth Café representatives are involved in reviewing strategic orientations, programme of work, budget allocations and draft resolutions across climate, biodiversity, pollution, circular economy and equity. Being part of the Children and Youth Major Group(CYMG), this space allows us to uplift vulnerable voices and keep intergenerational equity at the heart of the final texts heading into UNEA-7. We’re grateful to be part of this process and look forward to the collective progress ahead #OECPR #OECPR2025 #EnvironmentalGovernance #GlobalNegotiations #UNEA7 #YouthCafe #GreenFuture #StakeholderEngagement #MultilateralAction
