Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Texas (CSHT), in partnership with Every Brain Matters (EBM), supports the evidence-based clarity this article brings to the dangers of marijuana (THC) commercialization and marijuana-impaired driving. Texas leaders, law enforcement, medical professionals, parents, and educators are right to oppose these policies and protect public health and safety. Governor Abbott was wrong to veto the retail THC ban. While we appreciate federal action to address hemp-derived THC, Texas must act now—not a year from now—to shut down these drug-trafficking pathways before more lives are harmed. @LtGovTX @GregAbbott_TX @GovAbbottPress @DanPatrick @TexasScorecard @TexasABC @TXSheriffs @TexasEF @TexasYRs @TexasHouse @TexasRepublica2 @texasdemocrats @TexasDSHS
📢 THC-Impaired Driving Is Not the Same as Drunk Driving — and Treating It Like It Is Costs Lives 🚗💔 Our latest article breaks down why current policies treating marijuana impairment like alcohol impairment are failing public safety — and why expanding access without safeguards is irresponsible. THC affects reaction time, coordination, and judgment in ways that aren’t captured by traditional DUI tests, and families are paying the price in lives lost and communities harmed. 🚨 Hot off the scientific press — and policymakers need to pay attention 🚨 @realDonaldTrump A newly published study in the International Journal of Drug Policy estimates that THC-positive driving may now be responsible for ~5,000 traffic deaths per year in the U.S. 🚗💔 Using national crash data and the best available meta-analysis evidence, researchers found that 3–4% of all traffic fatalities are attributable to cannabis-positive driving — a risk that has grown dramatically as cannabis use has surged more than 200% in the past decade Estimating Cannabis traffic fatalities.... 📉 This isn’t about individual choice — it’s about population-level harm. 📊 The impact is measurable, preventable, and rising. ⚠️ Yet policy, data collection, and public messaging have not kept pace. If we care about road safety, we can’t keep ignoring this signal. Better surveillance. Clearer impairment standards. Stronger prevention. Lives depend on it. Why is the @POTUS continuing to overlook the real costs and harms associated with marijuana? In Texas in 2023, marijuana was the most commonly identified active substance in child abuse and neglect–related fatalities. It was noted as prior use in 95 cases—a number far higher than other substances. By comparison, methamphetamine and alcohol were each identified in 24 child fatalities. Despite these alarming numbers, this reality is still being widely ignored. @realDonaldTrump @GovAbbottPress @GovAbbottPress @DanPatrick @electcharles @LtGovTX @JDVance @VP @PamBondi @FBIDirectorKash @SecKennedy @The_Beagle90 @JenatxR @learnaboutsam @YRsOfTexas @TexasEF @TexasParty2017 @Texasmedhouston @TXSheriffs dfps.texas.gov/About_DFPS/Re…

⛔️Marijuana normalization is not harmless—it’s putting more families at risk. 🏘️Communities nationwide are seeing an alarming rise in cannabis-impaired driving and devastating crashes, including cases linked to cannabis-induced psychosis. ☹️We already lose 10,000–12,000 loved ones every year to alcohol-impaired driving. ⁉️So why would we pass policies that put another impairing drug on our roads—without any reliable way to test THC impairment or ensure accountability? 🛟Our families, our children, and our communities deserve better than policies that gamble with lives. #EveryBrainMatters #PublicHealth #RoadSafety #Prevention #txlege @POTUS @JDVance @VP @IngrahamAngle @AGPamBondi @FBIDirectorKash @dbongino @SecKennedy @RandPaul @SenTedCruz @DanCrenshawTX @GovAbbottPress @DanPatrick @electcharles @MillerForTexas @natesheetsforTX @texmed @TexasScorecard @TexasDSHS @TexasGOP @TexasEF @TXSheriffs @TexasDeptofAg @YRsOfTexas @TexasEF @TexasRepublica2

Listen, @GregAbbott_TX would not want this for Texas! Evidence shows that age-gating does not prevent marijuana access for children; it actually increases it! In November 2018, retailers in Massachusetts began selling recreational cannabis to adults 21 years and older. A study by investigators from Mass General Brigham found that, after commercialization, rates of cannabis use and cannabis-related disorders (i.e., cannabis use disorder, cannabis-induced psychiatric symptoms), disproportionately increased among adolescents, aged 12 to 17 years, presenting for a psychiatric emergency. They found there was an almost fourfold increase in cannabis use for this age group, rising from 5% to more than 17%, and a similar increase in cannabis-related disorders, among people presenting at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for psychiatric emergency services. Results of the study are published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. #txlege @POTUS @JDVance @VP @IngrahamAngle @AGPamBondi @FBIDirectorKash @dbongino @SecKennedy @RandPaul @SenTedCruz @DanCrenshawTX @GovAbbottPress @DanPatrick @electcharles @MillerForTexas @natesheetsforTX @texmed @TexasScorecard @TexasDSHS @TexasGOP @TexasEF @TXSheriffs @TexasDeptofAg @YRsOfTexas @TexasEF @TexasRepublica2 news-medical.net/news/202512…

⏰ Cannabis is not safe for adults, and increased awareness is urgently needed. New research shows a steady rise in emergency-room visits for cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) 🤮from 2016–2022, especially among young adults. CHS now makes up a growing share of all vomiting-related ER visits—and it’s frequently misdiagnosed, driving up medical costs 💵🫰and delaying real help. #txlege @POTUS @JDVance @VP @IngrahamAngle @AGPamBondi @FBIDirectorKash @dbongino @SecKennedy @RandPaul @SenTedCruz @DanCrenshawTX @GregAbbott_TX @DanPatrick @electcharles @MillerForTexas @natesheetsforTX @texmed @TexasScorecard @TexasDSHS @TexasGOP @TexasEF @TXSheriffs @TexasDeptofAg jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

Another fantastic article from our medical advisor, Dr. Matt Poling @The_Beagle90 Until hemp ban goes into effect, Texas can do more to educate on impacts of THC The intent of the 2018 farm bill was to promote industrial hemp products for consumers, not industrialized THC products for intoxication. The continuing resolution signed by President Donald Trump to end the government shutdown included a measure similar to the one Gov. Greg Abbott vetoed from Texas Senate Bill 3 addressing this "hemp THC" loophole, which is being exploited by an addiction-for-profit industry. U.S. Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tried to rescue the hemp THC industry, but they were defeated in a bipartisan landslide reminiscent of the results in the Texas Legislature. The federal law does not take effect for another year, but the risks need to be mitigated now. The public safety impact of THC from any source should be better assessed and the public better informed of the risks. Abbott has already issued an executive order prohibiting the sale of any THC products to minors. He should also order that all fatality crashes include drug toxicology reports as is routinely done for alcohol. THC and alcohol impair driving, but nearly four times as many cannabis users (42%) as alcohol users (11%) consume nearly every day. Presumably, most don't refrain from driving. Also, marijuana plants of today can be 10 times more potent as they were in the 1970s, and THC products still available through thousands of Texas industry outlets can exceed the potency of the plant itself. A six-year study presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Surgeons last month showed that more than 40% of deceased drivers in one major Ohio county tested positive for THC. Further, these drivers had average THC levels five to 10 times above the impairment level established by marijuana legal states. Texas already does a very good job investigating the impact of substance use on child abuse and neglect fatalities, with investigators determining that marijuana products are by far the most likely substance to be implicated. Abbott should execute an order that all non-natural deaths be investigated for substance use. Other states have done this and discovered that it is now THC (known to promote suicidal ideation) and not alcohol or opioids that is the substance most likely to be found in youth suicide victims. While he's at it, toxicology reports on all people charged with murder should be immediately reported. Public knowledge of THC risks lags far behind the scientific evidence. Texas should promote a public service campaign to educate youth, young adults and parents on the known risks. Use in pregnancy is particularly worrisome in light of the strong evidence of premature births. Perhaps in the next legislative session Abbott will meet with the experts in mental health and public safety, like our legislators did, and not just industry lobbyists. In the meantime, there is much more he can do to assess the damage, mitigate the risks and inform the public. Dear Texans, I’m writing to you today with a full heart and a deep sense of relief. After years of watching our communities struggle and our families bear the consequences of the dangerous hemp loophole, the federal government has finally stepped in to close the gap in the 2018 Farm Bill—one that allowed one of the largest drug-trafficking schemes in Texas history to grow unchecked. This moment didn’t happen by chance. It happened because countless Texans—parents, medical professionals, lawmakers, law enforcement officers, and everyday people who have suffered or witnessed suffering—stood together and refused to stay silent. Our Lieutenant Governor, the Senate, the House, and every major Texas medical organization showed incredible leadership. And families who have been directly harmed found the courage to speak out, again and again. Despite this groundswell of support, Governor Abbott (@GovAbbottPress) chose to hear only the voices of the hemp industry and vetoed SB3, a ban on retail hemp THC, just 20 minutes before it was set to become law. That decision was heartbreaking for so many of us who had poured our time, energy, and stories into protecting our communities. But today, there is hope. The federal government has corrected that mistake, recognizing what Texans have been saying all along: the human cost is too high. Within the next year, only hemp products containing 0.4 mg or less of Delta-9-THC will be allowed. This means the most dangerous products—the ones that have harmed our kids, our loved ones, and our neighborhoods—will finally be taken off the shelves. Reputable hemp businesses will still be able to operate, but without selling products that fuel addiction, psychosis, and other devastating mental and physical health issues, such as CHS, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you to every organization, every elected official, every advocate, and every family who fought for this. Taking on Big Cannabis, with its deep pockets and powerful influence, is not easy. But you showed up anyway. And your courage mattered. This is a victory—an important one. But it is not the end of the fight. We still have work to do to protect the health and safety of Texans. And if this past year has shown anything, it’s that when Texans stand together, we are unstoppable. When Texans win, America wins. We demand that @SenRandPaul take immediate action to reopen the government and maintain the hemp language. Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul ) must stop supporting the largest drug trafficking scheme, infiltrated with international criminal organizations that are flooding the market with chemically manufactured THC from hemp. These THC gummies, vapes, and candies are poisoning Americans, especially our children, and also leading to severe mental and physical health issues in adults, including schizophrenia. We are proud of Dr. Matt Poling, (@The_Beagle90 ) our medical advisor and a prominent voice in Texas and national media, for sharing life-saving information about hemp-derived THC in this @realDailyWire article. From the article: As history shows, nearly every civilization has progressed and evolved using some form of alcohol. But no civilization in history has ever experimented with the types of industrialized THC products Western countries are now recklessly legalizing, commercializing, and normalizing. We might pause to ask ourselves why zero Asian countries have done so and why China is so anxious to promote this cultural suicide weapon here. A 2023 global study on life expectancy showed we are back to pre-pandemic levels with one notable exception: Teens and young adults in Western countries are dying at higher rates, driven largely by suicides and substance use. Traffic fatalities continue to be a major cause of death in young adults, which is one reason The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh has been vocal about his opposition to the legalization of marijuana. In fact, a recent study of dead drivers in a major Ohio county morgue found that 42% of them tested positive for THC. Pot apologists quickly jumped to their defense, noting that THC can be detected for up to a month after use. But the national past 30-day marijuana use rate is only 16%, yet these drivers had average THC levels 5 to 10 times the state legal limits. Some will argue, “Well, it’s no worse than alcohol.” Marijuana use, however, is associated with more alcohol consumption, and marijuana users are five times more likely to become alcoholics. It has also been reported that up to 40% of marijuana users use daily, and up to 30% meet criteria for addiction — both far higher percentages than for drinkers. Using alcohol to excuse marijuana use or legalization is simply an exercise in lazy whataboutism. Speaking of which, THC strongly induces suicidality even in patients who were not depressed to begin with, and state legalization has led to sharp increases in youth suicides. Up to 30% of schizophrenia cases in young men are attributable to THC use now. Marijuana smoke is also causing the same type of cancers as tobacco smoke, while also dramatically increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes in younger users. Further, as the American College of Cardiology reports, THC has been shown to cause damage to major blood vessels regardless of the mechanism of ingestion. Add to this the well-known adverse effects on motivation and educational achievement, and the costs of the cannabis culture to government budgets are simply staggering. One study on the costs of legalization in Colorado, for example, conservatively estimated, “For every dollar gained in tax revenue, Coloradans spent approximately $4.50 to mitigate the effects of legalization.” And that’s even at a 15% sales tax rate. While there is simply no conservative case for the legalization of marijuana, the libertarian case suffers from serious flaws. First of all, the utopian assumption that legalization would lead to a “safe and regulated” product that would eliminate the black market has now gone 0-for-24 in our marijuana legal states. Many legal THC products are more potent than ever before, even more than the now highly potent plant itself. The industry has defied regulation, and the black markets are thriving. Legalizing marijuana to eliminate the black market is like giving your dog ticks to rid it of fleas. You just double the infestation. More importantly, substances like THC are the exception that proves the libertarian rule. Libertarianism works when people are free to act in their own best interest and, by extension, their family, community, and country. Chemicals like THC are designed to promote the opposite type of citizen. Libertarians should be the most opposed to the drug culture because it undermines the very foundation of their ideology. The politically driven potential rescheduling of marijuana will only fuel this destructive industry with tax breaks and marketing privileges. Republicans should note that young male voters moved to the Right last November while radical Democrats were still enticing them with more weed. Much attention has been paid to the influence of transgender ideology on the radicalization of Charlie Kirk’s assassin. But as we saw with the transgender school shooter in Minneapolis, THC may have also played a role. As discussed in a recent episode of the Liz Wheeler show, a close friend of the suspected Utah assassin reported rampant drug use in his apartment and that “We’d have a mostly weekly magic night at the apartment where everyone would come drink, get high and play magic.” Charlie Kirk gave his generation more credit than some in the GOP. Despite the criticism, he stood up to the lies of the THC industry. Republicans will never outbid Democrats in the race to the drug culture bottom. Nor should they, as polls show we may have already reached the bottom, with public sentiment now turning against marijuana. Charlie knew that minds can be changed, but facts cannot. Truth and the future of this great country are worth standing for, regardless of the cost. Principled conservatives should do more than eulogize Charlie. They should emulate him. * * * Matt Poling is a physician, Medical Director of Citizens for a Safe and Healthy Texas, and Faculty Advisor for Texas A&M Young Americans for Freedom. #txlege #hemp #thc #Texas @electcharles @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @RandPaul @RobertKennedyJr @ChuckGrassley @SenSchumer @AGPamBondi @MillerForTexas @natesheetsforTX @texmed @dbongino @FBIDirectorKash @VoteLizCampos @natesheetsforTX @TexasScorecard @TexasDSHS @TexasGOP @TexasEF @TXSheriffs @TexasDeptofAg dailywire.com/news/the-high-…

Christine from Texas shares her family’s wrenching journey after her bright, gifted son developed cannabis-induced psychosis following use of hemp-derived THC when he was 22 years old. What started as a single 80 mg edible on a trip escalated over months to daily vaping and gummies, leading to delusions, paranoia, financial loss to scammers, and a crisis when his roommate alerted the family on March 11, 2023. After ER visits and testing confirmed substance-related psychosis, Christine used the Marchman Act in Florida to get him into residential treatment on February 13, 2024; he completed an 8½-month continuum (residential → PHP → IOP) and sober living, returned to work, and is making progress, though family relationships remain fragile. Devastated but determined, Christine now educates others about the dangers of THC, stressing that potency, availability, and normalization mean cannabis can cause severe, lasting harm—even in adults—and urging families and health professionals to take the risks seriously. #txlege #hemp @GregAbbott_TX @GovAbbottPress @LtGovTX @electcharles @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @RandPaul @RobertKennedyJr @ChuckGrassley @SenSchumer @AGPamBondi @MillerForTexas @natesheetsforTX @texmed @dbongino @FBIDirectorKash @VoteLizCampos @natesheetsforTX @TexasScorecard @TexasDSHS @TexasGOP @TexasEF @TXSheriffs @TexasDeptofAg youtu.be/Qz7LNXa6mVE?si=rW-q…
