On 29 April 2025, in Bhubaneswar, the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha,
@KVSinghDeo1, launched the Odisha Climate-Smart Agriculture Alliance (CSA)—a collaborative initiative of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment (DAFE), the Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Department (FARDD), and
@BMGFIndia. This Alliance is spearheaded by
#CSTEP and Catalyst Management Services (
@Solvists) to advance
#ClimateSmartAgriculture in
#Odisha.
At the event, the Deputy CM of Odisha also released a report series by CSTEP, which presents a district-level assessment of resource use,
#GHG emissions, and
#ClimateRisks to support the data-driven prioritisation of districts for
#CSA. The report includes district-level assessments to guide
#ClimateActionplans. The three-part study offers the first integrated, district-level assessment of
> Resource use in paddy cultivation;
> GHG
#emissions from agriculture and allied sectors; and
> Drought, flood, heatwave, and tropical cyclone risks to agriculture and allied sectors.
The study identifies high-priority districts, including Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Balangir, to promote climate-smart
#agriculture interventions that can enhance
#resilience, improve
#resource efficiency, and reduce emissions.

To mark the launch of the
#Alliance, CSTEP organised a panel discussion on 'Building Climate Resilience in Agriculture and Allied Sectors in Odisha: Opportunities and Strategies' moderated by
@indukmurthy (Sector Head, Climate, Environment and Sustainability, CSTEP). The discussion highlighted inclusive, tech-enabled, and
#community-driven approaches to building climate resilience in agriculture. The session ended with
@JaiAsundi's (Executive Director, CSTEP) timely reminder, ‘Technology—especially AI—has immense potential for climate resilience, but the core takeaway is the centrality of community—be it a district, state, or the globe. Embedding traditional knowledge and working with communities are key to achieving meaningful outcomes.’
