IMO, the problem with saying the brain "is a computer" is the same as with saying I "am a runner". I sometimes run (if someone has hit a ball). It's one thing I do. But it's a misleading label as an identity relation.

I find it fascinating how many scientists, who would usually gravitate towards the most parsimonious explanation for any phenomenon, are prepared to accept the most tortuous sequence of multiple unlikely events when the alternative explanation is fraud.
