🌆🌎 Smart City Innovation for Urban Areas in Brazil
A major Smart City initiative has been launched in the Brazilian state of Paraná, marking an important milestone in advancing climate intelligence and urban resilience across South America.
The project – a joint effort between meteoblue, meteoblue BRASIL, and Sistema de Tecnologia e Monitoramento Ambiental do Paraná - Simepar – was officially signed during the 7th edition of the Smart City Expo in Curitiba, with support from the State Secretariat for Sustainable Development (SEDEST).
📍 Beginning in Curitiba, the initiative will expand across the metropolitan region, with future implementation planned in Toledo.
At its core, the project integrates cutting-edge technologies to strengthen climate monitoring and risk management in urban environments:
🔹 A comprehensive network of hydrological and meteorological sensors
🔹 High-resolution modelling of temperature, wind, PET, and pluvial flood risks
🔹 Artificial intelligence to identify urban hotspots and areas of increased vulnerability
🔹 Detailed analysis of heat islands and wind corridors
In summary, the initiative will provide more precise, localised information on weather and climate risks within the city, helping authorities better identify where and when issues such as heat stress or heavy rainfall are likely to occur.
