While the recognition of the scale of the crisis and the need for urgent action is welcome, major questions remain unanswered: ⚠️ What concrete emergency support will farmers receive? ⚠️ What direction will future #ETS and #CBAM revisions take for fertilisers? ⚠️ How will Europe ensure the continuity of its food systems in the face of soaring input costs? 🎙️Discussion on the upcoming reform of the EU ETS in Brussels On 3 March in Brussels, PKEE organised a meeting dedicated to the upcoming revision of the EU ETS, announced for the third quarter of 2026. The event brought together representatives of companies and industry organisations from across the European energy and industrial sectors. 🎯 The objective of the meeting was to identify the key priorities and challenges related to the ETS revision and to gain a better understanding of how different stakeholder groups assess the functioning of the system - from market stability and investment signals, through allowance availability and long-term climate ambition, to instruments supporting the transition, such as free allocation for district heating and the Modernisation Fund. 🗣️During the discussion, participants emphasised that EU climate policy must take into account new economic and geopolitical realities. A just energy transition should go hand in hand with energy security, the competitiveness of the European economy, and the stability of energy markets. The EU ETS remains one of the most important instruments for delivering the Union’s climate objectives. However, its design must respond to rapidly evolving economic and energy conditions - a consideration that should be fully reflected in the forthcoming work on the ETS review. 🤝 We would like to thank all participants for a substantive and open discussion. 🎙️ Rozmowa o przyszłej reformie systemu ETS w Brukseli 3 marca w Brukseli #PKEE zorganizowało spotkanie poświęcone – zapowiadanej na III kwartał 2026 r.- rewizji systemu EU ETS. Wzięli w nim udział przedstawiciele firm i organizacji branżowych, reprezentujących unijny sektor energetyczny i przemysł. 🎯Celem spotkania było zidentyfikowanie najważniejszych priorytetów i wyzwań związanych z rewizją systemu ETSoraz lepsze zrozumienie, jak różne grupy interesariuszy oceniają funkcjonowanie systemu – od stabilności rynku i sygnałów inwestycyjnych przez dostępność uprawnień i długoterminową ambicję klimatyczną aż po instrumenty wspierające transformację, takie jak bezpłatne uprawnienia dla ciepłownictwa czy Fundusz Modernizacyjny. 🗣️W trakcie dyskusji podkreślano, że polityka klimatyczna UE musi uwzględniać nowe realia ekonomiczne i geopolityczne. Sprawiedliwa transformacja energetyczna powinna iść w parze z bezpieczeństwem energetycznym, konkurencyjnością europejskiej gospodarki oraz stabilnością rynku energii. EU ETS pozostaje jednym z najważniejszych narzędzi realizacji celów klimatycznych Unii, jednak jego funkcjonowanie musi odpowiadać na dynamicznie zmieniające się uwarunkowania gospodarcze i energetyczne. I to należy zapewnić w trakcie nadchodzących prac nad przeglądem systemu ETS. 🤝Dziękujemy wszystkim uczestnikom za merytoryczną i otwartą dyskusję! The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is now fully operational as of 1 January 2026 and it’s changing how carbon is priced in global trade. After two years of emissions reporting, CBAM has entered its definitive phase, requiring importers to pay for the embedded carbon in carbon-intensive goods entering the EU. Carbon is no longer an abstract ESG metric. It is now verified at the border and priced. For exporters, especially in developing economies, CBAM marks a fundamental shift in how access to EU markets is determined.
