Day 2 of the Summer Outreach Camp 2026 at IISER Bhopal continued to spark curiosity and deepen scientific engagement among participants through a dynamic blend of talks, interactions, and hands-on experiences.
The day began with an insightful lecture by Dr. Mayuresh Surnis from the Department of Physics, who explored the fascinating connection between the phases of the Moon and the calendar, helping students understand how celestial cycles shape our perception of time.
Participants then engaged with the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in an interactive session titled “Eyes on the Earth”, led by Dr. Kumar Gaurav and Dr. Somil Swarnkar, offering perspectives on observing and understanding our planet.
The exploration continued with the Department of Chemistry through the session “Chemistry at Play: Atoms-to-Molecules-to-Materials” conducted by Prof. Abhijit Patra and Prof. Varadharajan Srinivasan, where students discovered how fundamental chemical principles translate into real-world applications.
A key highlight of the day was the lab visits to the Chemistry and Physics facilities, giving participants a firsthand glimpse into experimental science and advanced research environments.
Students also visited central facilities including the Central Instrumentation Facility, Central Library, and Computer Centre, broadening their exposure to the academic infrastructure at IISER Bhopal.
The day concluded with an engaging quiz competition, followed by sports activities at the Crescent Ground, encouraging teamwork, enthusiasm, and overall well-being.
Day 2 successfully combined learning with exploration, leaving participants inspired and eager for more discoveries ahead.
